Alcoholic beverage price quotation reporting
Founded in 1938, NABCA is the national association representing the Control State Systems – those jurisdictions that directly control the distribution and sale of beverage alcohol within their borders. Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, NABCA serves its members as an information clearinghouse and as liaison to federal, state and local governments, research and advocacy groups, and other organizations impacting alcohol policy.

PQRS was originally developed in 1998 to provide Control States an electronic capability to receive price quotations from beverage alcohol suppliers and brokers. Over 15 years later, the system was in dire need of an overhaul to allow for a modern web-based mobile-responsive experience. Additionally, the overall architecture of the application allowed for gaps in both security and data integrity.

Solution

303 Software worked with the NABCA project team to fully deconstruct the existing application in addition to crafting new requirements and user stories that would better suit NABCA’s primary PQRS user group. Working with a client team that was open to innovation, 303 Software reenvisioned the system architecture, user interface and overall data structure. In addition to allowing for a fully normalized database housing only clean and current data, 303 Software crafted a user-friendly front-end interface that would that allowed the PQRS user base to more readily engage with the application.

Result

Leveraging open-source technologies, 303 Software was able to efficiently develop a solution that satisfied both user needs and client budgets. Prior to the updated PQRS system, only 1 control state out of 18 was truly utilizing the application to enter pricing and product information. Since the application was deployed 5 states have adopted the updated PQRS system interface. NABCA will continue to onboard states over a 3 year period and are striving for the full adoption by each of the 18 control states. 303 Software has developed a more intuitive, user-friendly web and mobile browser-based application that will truly allow NABCA to drive process through technology for many years to come.
