Colorado Public Radio (CPR) enriches the Colorado community by providing news, information and music for people who want to be informed, enlightened and entertained. CPR engaged 303 Software to provide its users with access to CPR News, CPR Classical and OpenAir on smartphone and tablet devices.

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) enriches the Colorado community by providing news, information and music for people who want to be informed, enlightened and entertained. CPR sought to extend their digital presence to easy-to-use apps for Android and iOS devices that would provide CPR’s news and audio services to its audiences on-demand and with the familiar look and feel of the CPR website.

Solution

303 Software worked with CPR to mirror the most popular content and existing service structure in a series of app friendly layouts optimized for the most commonly used devices. By designing interactions that mirror the same service structure as CPR’s website and using existing XML, RSS and API connections from CPR.org, the apps display real-time news and audio content dynamically. 303 Software took the spectrum of CPR multimedia content and divided it by service so current listeners get a similar experience to interacting with CPR’s website. Users can browse full news stories from CPR.org and listen to audio clips from those stories in the app player, a re-creation of the full desktop experience. Both apps leverage as much native functionality as possible for a seamless user experience.

Result

303 Software produced native applications for CPR that make it easy for listeners to engage with live CPR News, Classical, or OpenAir programming and related on-demand content, such as hourly news updates and podcast clips. In addition, listeners can use the app to browse the latest news stories on those topics, view upcoming schedules for their favorite services, browse whole service playlists, and set an alarm to wake up to their favorite CPR service. Both apps are available in both phone and tablet sizes, including portrait and landscape tablet layouts.
